APS of Durham says circulating shelter photos show past conditions, plans public tours
The nonprofit acknowledges longstanding problems and says leadership, staffing, and training changes have been underway since March.

The Animal Protection Society of Durham says photographs circulating on social media show past shelter conditions, and it plans to offer community tours as it responds to allegations about animal care.
In a statement on Thursday, the nonprofit that operates the Durham County Animal Shelter acknowledged problems involving its aging facilities, limited resources, and operations. But it said the photographs don’t reflect conditions at the shelter today.
“The APS depicted in these photographs is not the APS of today,” the organization said.
