City Service Schedules for Christmas and New Year's
Holiday closings and hours in Durham.

Office closures and trash pickup are scheduled for the City of Durham for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

Officials announced schedule changes for the following areas:

Curbside Solid Waste Collections

Solid Waste Management Department services including garbage, recycling, and yard waste delayed by one business day starting Tuesday, Dec. 26, through at least the first full week of January.

Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility, Household Hazardous Waste Center are all closed on Dec. 23, Dec. 25, and Jan. 1.

Free Live Tree Drop-Off Locations

From Jan. 2 to Feb. 3, the city’s Waste Disposal and Recycling Center at 2115 E. Club Blvd. will accept live trees for free disposal. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Live trees also can be dropped off at no charge at seven park locations on Jan. 6, Jan. 13, Jan. 20, and Jan. 27, from 7 a.m. to noon. Solid Waste Management crews will be on site each of these Saturdays to assist. The park locations include:

  • C.M. Herndon Park, 511 Scott King Rd.
  • Valley Springs Park, 3805 Valley Springs Rd.
  • Rock Quarry Park, 701 Stadium Dr.
  • Merrick-Moore Park, 632 N. Hoover Rd.
  • Southern Boundaries Park, 3400 Third Fork Rd.
  • Bethesda Park, 1814 Stage Rd.
  • Campus Hills (parking lot), 2000 S. Alston Ave.

Live Tree Curbside Collection

Free curbside collections for live trees are available only to current yard waste customers and current exempt service customers. Curbside live tree collections will take place Jan. 2 through Feb. 3. Customers should place trees at the curb on their normal collection day. A tree collection won’t count toward a free brush collection for yard waste customers.

Live Tree Disposal Instructions

All live trees disposed of via the city must follow these instructions:

  • Trees must be cut in half if taller than six feet.
  • All decorations and hardware must be removed, including tinsel, lights, garland, ornaments, nails, and stands.
  • Trees shouldn’t be inside bags.

City Council Meeting

Rescheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 2, at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers in City Hall.

Parks and Recreation

Administrative office closed Dec. 25 and Dec. 26. Reopens Dec. 27.

Recreation centers and indoor pools closed starting Sunday, Dec. 24. Reopening on Dec. 27.

All DPR facilities closed Jan. 1 and reopening on Jan. 2.

Downtown Parking

The Park Durham Customer Service Center will be closed on Dec. 25, Dec. 26, and Jan. 1.

On city-designated holidays, downtown parking is free in on-street parking spaces, in some city-owned parking garages, and in city-owned surface parking lots.

GoDurham and GoDurham ACCESS

Holiday service is available on most GoDurham and GoDurham ACCESS routes except on Monday, Dec. 25. Christmas Eve service ends at 7:30 p.m.

Durham One Call

Durham One Call will be closed on Dec. 25, Dec. 26, and Jan. 1. Residents may submit service requests online or via text or phone, and staff will forward requests to the appropriate department the next business day.
