Crayons2Calculators Back-to-School Campaign Raises $50K+

The 2024 Crayons2Calculators Fill That Bus! campaign, in partnership with the Durham Public Schools Foundation, raised more than $50,000 to support teachers and students in Durham Public Schools. This year’s donations nearly doubled last year’s total.

Aetna’s $20,000 contribution played a pivotal role in the campaign’s success.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our community,” said Eunice Sanders, Crayons2Calculators executive director. “These funds will ensure teachers across Durham have the necessary supplies to support their students’ learning and success. We are deeply grateful to all our donors and community partners who made this possible.”

Besides financial contributions, neighborhood associations, nonprofits, and businesses collected thousands of dollars’ worth of supplies at drop-off locations. Volunteers are currently inventorying donations, with nearly 110,000 items valued at $40,000 already counted. These supplies will be distributed directly to teachers across DPS, helping to address the ongoing shortage of classroom materials.

Founded in 2006, Crayons2Calculators has spent the last 15 years working to equip every Durham classroom with essential tools for student success.
