Deadline Ahead for Durham Low-Income Property Tax Assistance
Homeowners of any age who have lived in their Durham home for at least five years, who haven’t received property tax assistance from another program, and whose household income falls below one of the area median income limits can apply for grants to help pay their 2023 property tax bill.
The deadline for the Durham Low-Income Homeowners Relief Program (LIHR): June 1. Apply at the link and make sure you’ve got:
- Durham County property tax bill for 2023 with the applicant’s name.
- 2022 household income information, 1040 pages 1-2, W-2, Social Security, disability, etc.
- Driver’s license or other photo identification.
Depending on income, the grant may pay up to $1,500 or it could cover the full tax bill for residents who are at least 60 and low income. Grants are available even if the tax bill already has been paid.
