Durham Public Schools leaders will get an update on the superintendent search during a special meeting on Monday.
So far, according to agenda materials posted on the DPS Board of Education website, consultant Alma Advisory Group as of May 8 received 73 applications to serve as the next superintendent.
Of those disclosing gender, race, or ethnicity:
- 58% are male; 42% are female.
- 72% are Black, 5% Latine, 18% white, 2% multi-racial.
- 11 are current or recent superintendents.
- At least 15 have North Carolina school district experience.
- 30 invited to first-round interviews, of which 19 have been completed.
The proposed stages of screening go like this:
- By May 24, the consultant expects to finish the first round, consisting of resume screening and virtual interviews.
- Between May 20-31, board members would lead the second round, splitting into teams to interview 3-4 candidates each. All interviews would pose the same questions and all would be recorded.
- June 3-7, the board would lead a third round with all members meeting with perhaps 5-7 candidates.
