Durham Big Lots Targeted for Closure

Discount retailer Big Lots is cutting its 60 North Carolina stores down to seven. Two of the stores that are closing are in Durham.

The locations expected to close are:

  • 3420 Southwest Durham Dr.
  • 2000 Avondale Dr.

The news comes about two months after the parent company based in Columbus, Ohio, reported a net loss of $205 million during the first quarter of fiscal year 2024.

At the time, Big Lots President and CEO Bruce Thorn said: “While near-term conditions have been challenging, we’re not slowing down on making progress to transform our business. The current financial performance does not yet reflect the stronger business model that we’ve created … but we expect the fruits of those efforts to become more apparent in the back half of the year.”

The Big Lots stores are expected to remain open until they’ve sold what inventory remains on hand.
