Durham Blues Artists Sought for Competition

The Triangle Blues Society’s Triangle Blues Challenge, a regional competition, seeks acts to represent the area at the Blues Foundation’s 40th International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis, Tennessee. More than 250 acts from around the world will converge on Beale Street to perform before the music industry, vying for recognition and prizes, including major festival performances.

This year’s Triangle Blues Challenge is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024, at the Blue Note Grill in Durham. Categories include solo, duo, and bands performing all styles of blues. To qualify, at least half of any band (or one member if a trio) and at least one member of a solo or duo act must be legal residents of North Carolina by Oct. 6, 2024. Additionally, at least one member of each act must belong to the Triangle Blues Society.

Performers under 21 as of the IBC dates, Jan. 7-11, 2025, can compete in the youth category. During the IBC, Youth Showcases are held at various clubs on Beale Street, excluding the finals at The Orpheum Theatre. Note that winners of TBS’s Youth Challenge are responsible for their own funding efforts.
