Durham Chefs Among Winners of Undeniably Dairy Awards
Theresa Norris of M Pocha and Jonathan Blitz of Mystic Farm and Distillery are among the winners of the 2024 Undeniably Dairy Awards, which honor culinary professionals for incorporating North Carolina dairy products into their dishes and beverages.
The awards are part of the North Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association’s Chef Showdown, which has its grand finale on Aug. 26 in Bay 7 at the American Tobacco Campus.
The showdown, now in its eighth season, is sponsored by The Dairy Alliance. It challenges chefs and mixologists to create standout dishes, desserts, cocktails, and mocktails using local dairy products.
Winners of the 2024 Undeniably Dairy Awards include:
- Best Savory Plate: Theresa Norris, M Pocha, Durham.
Winning Dish: Blackened North Carolina shrimp, pimento cheese, milk bread pudding, corn shrimp velouté, chow-chow. - Best Dessert: Chef Mary Jayne Wilson, Thoughtful Baking Company, Charlotte.
Winning Dish: Summer Charlotte, featuring summer berries, buttermilk sponge cake, raspberry mousse, blueberry marmalade, and more. - Best Cocktail and Mocktail: Conley Marie, The Willard, Raleigh, and Jonathan Blitz, Mystic Farm and Distillery, Durham.
Winning Mocktail: “Creature Comforts,” a key lime pie-inspired drink.
Winning Cocktail: “Nostalgia,” featuring bourbon and homemade ice cream.
