The new-look Durham City Council gets started on Dec. 1 with a show of appreciation for departing Mayor Pro Tem Mark-Anthony Middleton and member DeDreana Freeman.

Then incumbent member Chelsea Cook and newcomers Matt Kopac and Shanetta Burris get sworn in by Superior Court judges Shamieka Rhinehart and Dorothy Hairston Mitchell. Returning Mayor Leonardo Williams will be sworn in by Chief District Court Judge Clayton Jones.
