Durham City Manager Plans Retirement in December

Wanda Page, the current city manager, expects to end her career with the City of Durham in December after 36 years of service.

She told Mayor Leonardo Williams and City Council members in a July 1 email that “now is the right moment to begin the transition of passing the torch to new leadership and allow fresh perspectives to shape the future of our beloved city.”

City officials declined to release the full text of the email to Southpoint Access, citing personnel privacy.

According to a news release, Page said she wanted to give the City Council ample time to search for a replacement when members return to duty in August.

She joined the city staff in 1987 as an accountant. She ascended through progressively responsible positions until 2006, when she became a deputy city manager. Page took over as interim city manager following the departure of Tom Bonfield in 2020. She became city manager in March 2021.
