Durham Mall Hosts Upcoming Marathon
The Streets at Southpoint will serve as start and finish line for the RDC (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill) Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 27.
Organized by FS Series, the event can help runners qualify for the Boston Marathon. It’s set to start in the parking lot just west of the AMC Southpoint 17 movie theater. The marathon/half marathon kicks off at 7:15 a.m.; the 10,000/5,000k races start at 7:45.
The races allow for as many as 1,000 full-marathon and 1,500 half-marathon participants.
Participants will travel a route that showcases the diversity of the American Tobacco Trail, going from the city to forest trails to open farmland. Half-marathon runners will turn around after the seventh mile and return to The Streets at Southpoint. Full-marathon runners proceed down the trail and turn back at the U.S. Hwy. 64 tunnel.
Water stops and portable restroom locations, with Gatorade hydration and stinger gels, will be set up two miles apart at:
- Massey Chapel Road.
- Scott King Road.
- O’Kelly Chapel Road.
- New Hope Church Road.
- White Oak American Tobacco Trail entrance.
- Wimberly Road.
Several awards will be distributed after the race, including the top three overall male and female runners.
