Durham Offices Closing for Labor Day

Most City of Durham offices, including City Hall and all non-emergency city facilities and operations, will close to the public on Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day.

Solid Waste

The Solid Waste Management Department also will close on Sept. 2. Curbside collections for garbage, recycling, and yard waste will be delayed by one business day. Friday yard waste customers will receive their curbside collections on Monday, Sept. 9. The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility, and Household Hazardous Waste Center will be closed on Sept. 2 and will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

City Council

The City Council’s regular business meeting is rescheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall. The meeting will be livestreamed on the City’s website, YouTube, Facebook, and X channels, and on Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV through the Boxcast app. It will also be televised live on Durham Television Network (Spectrum channel 8 and Frontier channel 70). Parks and Recreation

Durham Parks and Recreation (DPR) will close its administrative office and all facilities on Sept. 2. Athletic fields and picnic shelters are available for rent, and city lakes and outdoor spraygrounds will operate under their regular schedules. Downtown Parking

The Park Durham Customer Service Center will close on Sept. 2. On City-designated holidays, downtown parking is free in on-street parking spaces, in some city-owned parking garages, and in city-owned surface parking lots. GoDurham and GoDurham ACCESS

GoDurham and GoDurham ACCESS will operate Sunday-level service on Sept. 2. For up-to-date information, including detours and holiday reminders, call 919-485-RIDE (7433), download MyStop Mobile, or follow GoDurham on X.

Durham One Call

Durham One Call will be closed on Sept. 2. Residents may submit service requests online, via the Durham One Call smartphone app, by texting 919-813-6315, or by leaving a message at 919-560-1200. Staff will address requests on the next business day.

Water and Sewer Emergencies

For water main breaks and sewer overflow emergencies after hours, on weekends, or on City-recognized holidays, please call the Water Management Department’s after-hours emergency number at 919-560-4344. On-call crews will be dispatched.
