The City of Durham’s Parks and Recreation Department wants to hire a special events manager to lead the citywide special events office.
This full-time position, offering a salary range of $84,428 to $130,874 annually, presents an opportunity for experienced professionals to contribute to the vibrant community culture of one of the nation’s fastest-growing cities. Reporting directly to the Director of Parks and Recreation, the special events manager will oversee the coordination, planning, and execution of large-scale events across the city. Key responsibilities include facilitating the special event permitting process, working with various local organizations such as Downtown Durham Inc. and Discover Durham, and managing strategic partnerships with local universities, businesses, and nonprofits.
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in recreation, leisure services, or a related field, with at least five years of experience in program administration and two years of supervisory experience. Strong communication skills, budget management expertise, and the ability to work evenings and weekends are essential for this leadership role.
