Durham: Perdue Nugget and Tenders Recall

Durham: Perdue Nugget and Tenders Recall

South Durham residents, take note: Perdue Foods LLC is recalling more than 167,000 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast nuggets and tenders due to potential contamination with metal. This recall, announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), affects several products that might be in your freezer right now.

Affected Products

The recall includes the following items, all of which were produced on March 23, 2024, and have a “Best If Used By” date of March 23, 2025:

  • Perdue Simply Smart Organics Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets: 22-ounce vacuum-sealed packages.
  • Perdue Chicken Breast Tenders: 29-ounce vacuum-sealed packages.
  • ButcherBox Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets: 22-ounce vacuum-sealed packages.

Each of these products bears the establishment number “P-33944” on the back of the package. These items were distributed to retail locations across the country and sold online directly to consumers.

Discovery and Actions

The potential contamination issue came to light after consumers reported finding metal wire embedded in their chicken products. Upon receiving these complaints, Perdue immediately notified FSIS, prompting the recall.

Fortunately, no injuries or adverse reactions have been reported so far. However, FSIS is urging consumers to check their freezers and discard or return any affected products. If you have purchased any of these items, do not consume them—your safety comes first.

What to Do Next

If you have one of these products, you should either throw it away or return it to the store where you bought it. Retailers should have information on how to process returns and refunds. FSIS will continue to monitor the situation, ensuring that the recall is effective and that no further contaminated products reach consumers.
