Durham Residents Can Help Shape Pedestrian, Biking Future
Durham is calling on residents to share their ideas for improving biking, walking, and rolling in the city as part of an update to the 2025 Durham Bike+Walk Plan.
Durham is calling on residents to share their ideas for improving biking, walking, and rolling in the city as part of an update to the 2025 Durham Bike+Walk Plan. This initiative will serve as a roadmap for enhancing sidewalks, bike lanes, greenways, and other infrastructure.
Participants in the survey could win a $50 gift card.
How to Participate
Residents can contribute in the following ways:
- Complete the Online Survey
Share your feedback and enter a drawing for a $50 gift card. The survey closes at 5 p.m. on Jan. 17, 2025. - Use the Interactive Online Map
Add location-specific comments to an interactive map that includes both the City of Durham and Durham County. - Attend Community Meetings and Pop-Up Events
Meet project staff at in-person events to discuss your ideas directly. Pre-registration is encouraged.
Why Resident Input Matters
The updated Bike+Walk Plan, expected in summer 2025, builds on the 2017 plan and aims to improve what’s working while addressing areas for growth. It's expected to guide future projects to make Durham’s streets safer and more accessible for all.

- Saturday, Dec. 8: 2–3:30 p.m. at CCB Plaza (Free People’s Bike Ride)
- Saturday, Dec. 14: 10 a.m.–noon at W.G. Pearson Center, 600 E. Umstead St.
- Thursday, Jan. 16: 6–7:30 p.m. at Avila Retreat Center, 711 Mason Rd.
One meeting also will be conducted in Spanish.
Pop-Up Events
- Saturday, Dec. 7: 9–10:30 a.m. at the LEAP 5K Jingle Walk/Run, 473 Morehead Ave.
- Saturday, Dec. 21: 10 a.m.–noon at the PAC 1 Meeting, Holton Career and Resource Center, 401 N. Driver St.
