The Durham Public Schools Board of Education already had a closed session toward the end of its agenda for tonight’s monthly meeting.
But earlier this week, DPS officials added a new closed session ahead of the regular meeting, scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. while the Durham Association of Educators and supporters of classified staff rally outside at the Minnie Forte-Brown Staff Development Center on Hillandale Road.
As with previous closed sessions, the board is justifying the secrecy based on attorney-client privilege and discussions of personnel matters.
The board is expected to discuss the future of classified staff pay at the open session of the meeting. Previously, the administration agreed to honor pay rates set in October and paid through December. They indicated that they’re trying to keep the pay the same in January. But it remains to be seen what will be set going forward.
