Durham Public Schools won't be in session Monday as officials take precautions with the forecast calling for strong winds, thunderstorms, and possible tornadoes.

This closure is designated as an optional staff workday and won't include remote learning. All after school programs, athletics, clubs, and district events scheduled for Monday are canceled.

The National Weather Service has included Durham in a Level 4 risk zone, indicating widespread and potentially damaging wind gusts - possibly in excess of 75 mph - will pass through the region in the afternoon and evening hours. The NWS also noted that supercells could develop ahead of the main storm lines, bringing tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, and large hail.

Please be careful, neighbors!
