Durham’s 10 early voting sites include four in South Durham
Planning to vote before Election Day? Early voting runs Oct. 15-31, with the same hours at every Durham County location.

Durham County voters will have 10 places and 17 days to vote early ahead of the Nov. 3 general election.
Four of those locations are in South Durham, stretching from Garrett Road and South Roxboro Street to South Alston Avenue and the Southern School of Energy and Sustainability campus in southeastern Durham.
During early voting, any registered Durham County voter can use any of the county’s 10 sites. You don’t have to vote at your assigned Election Day precinct.
Every site will follow the same schedule:
- Weekdays, Oct. 15-16, Oct. 19-23, and Oct. 26-30: 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Saturdays, Oct. 17, Oct. 24, and Oct. 31: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Sundays, Oct. 18 and Oct. 25: 2 to 6 p.m.
Early voting ends at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Two sites added since 2022
Southern and the Little River Community Complex are the two additions to Durham’s general election early voting lineup.
Durham operated eight sites during the comparable 2022 general election, when 79,928 voters cast early ballots. Adding the two sites increases the county’s combined voting availability from 1,336 site-hours in 2022 to 1,670 site-hours this year, a 25% increase.
The county budgeted $418,080 to operate the 2026 early voting plan.
What to bring
North Carolina voters will be asked to show an acceptable photo ID when they check in. Common options include an N.C. driver’s license, an N.C. identification card, a U.S. passport, and certain approved student or government employee IDs.
The address on the photo ID doesn’t have to match the address on the voter’s registration record. Voters without an acceptable ID may still be able to vote by completing an ID exception form. The State Board of Elections has a full explanation of the photo ID rules and exceptions.
The regular voter registration deadline was 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9. People who missed that deadline can register and vote at the same time during early voting.
Same-day registrants must provide proof of their current Durham County residence. Accepted documents include a driver’s license or other government document, utility bill, bank statement, government check, or paycheck showing the voter’s name and current address. The State Board provides more information about same-day registration.
Voters can check their registration and view their sample ballot through the state’s Voter Search tool.
Completed absentee ballots also may be returned in person to any Durham County early voting site during its operating hours. The deadline for the county to receive absentee ballots is 7:30 p.m. on Election Day.
The county’s official early voting flyer is available online. Questions can be directed to the Durham County Board of Elections at 919-560-0700 or elections@dconc.gov.
