Durham’s drinking-water reservoirs were 44% full as of Sunday, Sept. 27.

The city estimates it has 98 days of easily accessible water in Lake Michie and Little River Reservoir, based on the recent rate of demand on those reservoirs. Stage 2 water restrictions remain in effect for City of Durham water customers.

That 98-day estimate is down from 125 days on Aug. 26, when the reservoirs were 51.64% full. It isn’t a countdown to dry taps. The city lists two other sources of supply, but they’re less readily available:

• 43 days of water below the reservoirs’ intake structures.
• 20 days in Teer Quarry emergency storage.

Together with the easily accessible water, those figures add up to the city’s estimate of 161 days of total supply.
