[Election 2024] SoDu Snapshot: Democrats, Female Voters Lead Way in Early Voting
Here’s a quick snapshot of early voting in Durham after two days:
- 24,914 votes cast by Saturday, Oct. 19.
- Of those, 18,114 were from voters who were at least 41.
- 22,329 were Democrats or unaffiliated; 2,276 were Republicans. Other parties were negligible.
- About 53% of the early voters were women; 39% were men; and the rest are shown in statistics as undesignated.
- More than 21,000 voters were white or Black.
- Turnout was highest around 3 p.m.
- The most popular early voting site as of Saturday: Durham County main library branch, followed by Duke University Karsh Alumni Center, and Cole Mill Church of Christ. Durham Technical Community College’s main campus voting site ranked lowest for turnout, so if you haven’t voted yet and want to avoid a wait, this might be a great spot.
Speaking of wait times, the Durham County Board of Elections provides an online tracker that offers a decent estimate of how long you can expect to stand in line to fill out both sides of your ballot.
