[Fiction] Dear Posse No. 11: Perpetual Half-Light
I’m working on a serial fiction project. Each segment will be published here and on Patreon. It is available in full to Patreon supporters:
Dear Posse,
Eliza and I decided to venture further into the twilight today. The dusky glow seems to touch everything now, wrapping the world in a perpetual half-light that makes even familiar streets feel like alien landscapes.
As we walked, we noticed that the plants aren’t the only things changing. Animals, too, are different. Birds with eyes too bright and fur that seems to absorb the light, making them look like shadows with wings. They watched us from the trees, unblinking.
“The world’s adapting,” Eliza said, her voice low. “Or maybe it’s revealing what’s always been hidden.”
We wandered into the playground at Hope Valley Elementary School, swings moving gently as if pushed by invisible children. The merry-go-round creaked softly, spinning ever so slightly on its own. The air here felt thick, charged with a static that raised the hairs on my arms.
“We’re not alone,” I murmured, and Eliza nodded.
We didn’t stay long.
