Got Input for the Durham-to-Roxboro Trail?
The project represents a partnership between the City of Durham, Durham County Government, Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization, the North Carolina Department of Transportation, and the East Coast Greenway Alliance.
In February, Durham residents will get two opportunities to check out plans for the transformation inactive rail corridor into a multi-use trail between downtown Durham and Roxboro.
When finished, it would create a 26-mile trail network connecting the cities.
Workshops are set for:
- Feb. 4, 5 to 7 p.m., at the main branch of the Durham County Library (300 N. Roxboro St.
- Feb. 5, 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the North Regional Library (221 Milton Rd.)
The project represents a partnership between the City of Durham, Durham County Government, Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization, the North Carolina Department of Transportation, and the East Coast Greenway Alliance.
Said City Council Member Carl Rist: "The Durham-to-Roxboro Trail represents an incredible opportunity to bring people together, promote healthy outdoor activity, enhance our city's vibrancy, connect to our unique history, provide an integral bicycle and pedestrian corridor for our city's active transportation network, and inspire pride in the unique character of Durham."
Durham County Commission Michelle Burton said the trail would help build "a lasting legacy for future generations."
Even if you can't attend the workshops, you can provide input through an online survey.
The planning process is currently in the overlapping research and preliminary analysis and trail visioning and public engagement phases. Between April and August, it's expected to shift to concept planning, with final plan development between August and October.
