Heat and Storms Have Durham on Alert

The National Weather Service is warning of a return of hot conditions, as well as threatening storms, on this Independence Day.

According to an advisory released early Thursday, high temperatures are expected in the mid to upper 90s, with heat index values as high as 105 degrees. Also, scattered thunderstorms between 4 and 9 p.m. could produce strong and potentially damaging wind gusts.

The heat is expected to remain hazardous throughout the weekend, with heat index values between 100 and 109 – highest on Friday.
