Hillside High Student Faces Pending Assault, Arson Charges

During lunch on Thursday, the Durham County Sheriff's Office reported, a female student at Hillside High School deployed pepper spray and set a trash can on fire.
The pepper spray affected five people in the immediate vicinity. One teacher and a student were doused with spray, including a teacher, who was taken to the hospital for treatment. Both were reported in stable condition, according to Durham Public Schools officials.
According to a Sheriff's Office news release, the student faces pending charges of assault, assault on a government official, and arson. No further identifying information was released due to the student's age.
