[In Memoriam] Charlene Ione Howell, 72

[In Memoriam] Charlene Ione Howell, 72

The following obituary originally was published by Clements Funeral & Cremation Services:

Charlene Ione Howell passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, May 27. She was 72.

She was born in Durham County to the late Charles Edward Colvard and is survived by her mother, Geneva Colvard.

A beloved spouse and mother, Howell was a champion of the classroom, having retired from teaching math for 30 years in Durham Public Schools. She accomplished what many might think impossible with middle school students: making learning math fun and inspiring many young minds to pursue successful careers into adulthood. In her free time, she enjoyed showcasing her artistic side through cross-stitching, making mesh wreaths, and interior decorating her homes in Apex and Calabash. She will be greatly missed but will forever be in the hearts and minds of her family and the local community.

Howell is survived by her husband, Danny Howell; son, Jeremy Howell; and brother, Steve Colvard.

Visitation will be held at Guess Road Baptist Church in Durham on Tuesday, June 4, from 11 to 11:30 a.m., with a memorial service to follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Duke HomeCare & Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
