[In Memoriam] Delma Thomas Berry, 87

Delma Thomas Berry passed away on May 12 at Duke Regional Hospital. He was 87. He was born in Efland, N.C., on Aug. 28, 1936, to the late Charlie Berry and Neva Shanklin Berry. In addition to his parents, Berry was predeceased by his wife, Jean Walker Berry; son, Tom Berry; and three sisters and two brothers.
Berry, a former truck driver for McLean and Central Carolina Farmers, traveled the nation’s highways for decades and retired with a wealth of experience and stories from the road. He predominantly traveled the East Coast, hauling lumber and freight. He loved sharing these stories from his time as a truck driver with his children and grandchildren.
Berry found joy in spending his leisure days at Emerald Isle Beach with his wife. In addition to his beach time, Berry enjoyed gardening and tending to his yard, growing tomatoes, corn, and various other vegetables.
Berry is survived by his daughter, Debbie Corr, and husband Don; sons, Alan Berry, Greg Berry and wife Gina; stepdaughter, Janice Korzendorfer and husband Dan; daughter-in-law, Sandy Berry; grandchildren, Ashlyn Perry and husband Bill, Rachel Berry, Taylor Berry, Leah Berry, Blake Berry; great-grandchildren, Ada Perry and Miriam Perry; and brother, Richard Berry.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
