[In Memoriam] Margaret Sellers Gumby, 88

Margaret Lorraine Sellers Gumby, age 88, of Durham, passed away on April 29, 2024, at her home. She was born on Feb. 18, 1936, in Chambersburg, Penn., to the late Joseph R. and Amanda J. Sellers. She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Gumby, and siblings Joseph III, David H., John A., William S., and Sadie E. Dizard.
Sellers dedicated her life to education, serving as an elementary teacher for 39 years. She taught in New Jersey before returning to Chambersburg, where she continued to inspire students until her retirement. Even after retiring, she continued to educate as a tutor and instructor for adult students. She also was known for her musical talents as an organist at St. James and St. Paul Church, her artistic skills, and her love for gardening, particularly roses.
Her warm hospitality and involvement in the community extended to her role as a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She will be deeply missed by her nieces, nephews, and all who knew her.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held in Chambersburg, Penn. (date to be determined).
