[IN MEMORIAM] Sarah Davis Bonner, 84
The woman known as “Miss Sarah” to patrons of the popular West 94th St. Pub in Woodcroft passed away at home on Nov. 21. She was 84.
Sarah Davis Bonner was born Nov. 15, 1939, to the late Everett Davis and Sudie Hopkins Davis. She was preceded in death by her son Kelly Owen Bonner and her husband, George Irving Bonner III.
A graduate of Stem High School and Louisburg College, Miss Sarah opened her pub in 1994, hoping to provide a Cheers-like atmosphere “where everyone could enjoy themselves while meeting new friends,” according to her obituary.
“At any given time, anyone could walk in and find her in the back booth (B4) or back tall table (W3) running her business,” the obituary stated. “She was very adamant about the Pub being open 365 days of the year as she wanted to provide a place for the community to come at any time.”
She was known for telling the truth “even when you didn’t want to hear it.”
Her grandchildren called her “Bebe.” She enjoyed watching them play their favorite sports, perform in high school choir, or spend any other time with them.
A private family graveside ceremony is scheduled for Dec. 2 at Bullock Cemetery in Stem. Pub patrons, family, and friends are welcome to a “Celebration of Life” event at the Pub on Dec. 16 from noon to 5 p.m.
Memorials can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of her son, Kelly Owen Bonner.
