[Junction 54] Pearsontown Bus Scare - Editor's Column/Audio Note

You’ve probably heard by now, Pearsontown Elementary School students on their way home from school on the bus got a scare today. One of the children took a toy gun from his backpack in front of other passengers.

Principal Asia Cunningham called families about the incident, saying that the bus driver acted quickly and confiscated the toy.

Said Cunningham: “While the toy gun was not used in a threatening manner or maliciously, students did become frightened when it was displayed. The safety and well-being of our students are always our utmost priority, and I want to assure you that we take any situation involving potential safety concerns very seriously.”

I’m glad it wasn’t a worst-case scenario and that no one was hurt, but it drives home the need for parents like me to make sure we know what’s going into our children’s book bags each day.
