Lakewood plan calls for affordable homes, safer streets
What should come next for Lakewood, West End, and Lyon Park? A proposed neighborhood plan calls for affordable housing, safer streets, and changes at the Shoppes at Lakewood. Here’s what’s up for discussion Oct. 13, along with four development cases.

More affordable housing, safer street crossings, and a shopping center with homes, businesses, and shaded gathering spaces are among the recommendations in a neighborhood plan headed to the Durham Planning Commission on Tuesday.
The Lakewood, West End, and Lyon Park Small Area Plan would guide future development and public investment in the three neighborhoods, with particular attention to what could happen at the Shoppes at Lakewood.
Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the draft during their meeting at 5:30 p.m. in City Council chambers, 101 City Hall Plaza. Other hearings include four zoning cases, two with associated petitions to bring property into the city limits.
