[Nerdspresso] Novocaine: Battle of the Nepo Babies

You will hide your eyes even while you’re laughing at some of this movie’s most excruciating moments. Novocaine is the most fun you’ll ever have wincing. It plays like Die Hard as body horror.

Hollywood is overrun with nepo babies. Those children of celebrities cashing in on their famous DNA are everywhere in Tinseltown.

Some of them stand on their own like Margaret Qualley from The Substance and Honey, Don’t (daughter of Andie McDowell) and Maya Hawke of Stranger Things (daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke).

Others are more known for that notable surname than any true discernible talent (Scott Eastwood, Dakota Johnson, and Zoe Kravitz).

It is interesting to me that we wouldn’t blink if our accountant brought their kid into the family biz, but we are immediately skeptical when an actor’s kid follows in their footsteps.

I would say that Jack Quaid is a nepo baby who uses his powers for good. The offspring of Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid just concluded successful runs as Hughie on Prime’s cynical superhero fable The Boys and as the earnest voice of Brad Boimler on the Star Trek animated comedy Lower Decks on Paramount+.

His famous progenitors certainly got him noticed, but Quaid’s quirky charm and boundless enthusiasm have established him as a rising talent.
