The holiday season has a special hold on our souls. We decorate our homes, participate in gift exchanges, and celebrate it with our pop culture. Would the holidays even be the same if Mariah Carey wasn’t belting out her yuletide desire for your love incessantly from Nov. 1 to Christmas Day? Would we feel completely in the spirit without Buddy the Elf or Little Ralphie or Ebenezer Scrooge? And don’t get me started on John McClane. 

Ever since the internet started trending theories about why Die Hard is a Christmas movie (and yes, it is, you can fight me), Hollywood has been trying to bottle the magic formula that mixes action and holiday cheer into an explosive seasonal crescendo. It makes perfect sense to put the two together. People love action movies, and who doesn’t love Christmas? Wrap that mayhem up with a bow and put it under the tree for you and me to enjoy again and again.
