Based in South Durham, SeeGov is a nonprofit platform that makes local government meetings easier to follow by turning long, often overwhelming sessions into concise highlight videos. With the decline of local news coverage, it has become harder for residents to track decisions made by the Durham City Council, County Commission, and other boards. That’s why Southpoint Access - largely a one-person newsroom run by Wes Platt - relies on SeeGov as its “reporter in the room” for many meetings that can’t be covered in person. SeeGov’s mission is to strengthen democracy by helping residents know their local leaders, understand their positions, and see how decisions are made. Using AI-assisted tools, with human editors shaping the story, SeeGov compiles the key moments from meetings and keeps the focus on the voices of officials, staff, and community members. Together, Southpoint Access and SeeGov make it easier for South Durham to stay informed, engaged, and connected to local government.
