Planning Commission Rejects Scaled-Down Sheffield Farms Proposal
The Durham Planning Commission voted against recommending approval of the Sheffield Farms development along Farrington Mill Road. The proposed project, a scaled-down version of an earlier plan, would include 702 homes, townhouses, and apartments across 218.5 acres, along with 5,000 square feet of retail space.
Opponents highlighted potential traffic congestion at Farrington Mill and Stagecoach roads, while the developer argued it would be unfair to require improvements to the intersection. The proposal, which also includes plans to preserve a historic log slave quarter site, could still go before the Durham City Council for consideration, though no date has been set.
