Duke Energy Customers Lost Power in Hope Valley Farms

Neighborhoods in Hope Valley Farms along South Roxboro Street lost power early Friday, leaving hundreds of Duke Energy Carolinas customers without electricity.

Among those affected: students at Murray-Massenburg Elementary School, which released at 9:45 a.m. “due to an underground cable issue that created a power outage,” according to Durham Public Schools spokesperson Crystal Kimpson Roberts.

Burton IB Elementary School Wins Magnet School Recognition

Burton IB Elementary School has been recognized as one of only 24 schools nationwide to earn the prestigious Top Magnet School of Excellence distinction. Additionally, five other Durham Public Schools magnet programs have received Schools of Excellence and Schools of Distinction honors.

New Cava Location Opens in Southpoint: Mediterranean fast-casual restaurant Cava opened its new location in Renaissance Village today. It takes over the old Harvest 18 spot, offering salads, pitas, and dips.

Hope Valley Elementary Community Comes Through: Neighbors, particularly nearby families and Epworth United Methodist Church, made sure HVE students have plenty of hats, coats, gloves, and rain ponchos as the new "family responsibility zones" go into effect next week.
