Durham's Unified Development Ordinance doesn't allow for unattended clothing donation containers like these. Photo: Wes Platt.

F.A.Q. [FRIDAY ASKED QUESTIONS]

Recently, on a Facebook page for parents at Pearsontown Elementary School, someone asked about the green textile recycling bins that used to be in the school parking lot off Barbee Road.

Turns out, they're not allowed under Durham's Unified Development Ordinance, which states that "unattended clothing donation containers are prohibited unless located at the operational site of a company or organization that collects used clothing for resale or donation as a primary business function."

So, if we want to donate clothes, we're supposed to seek out places like the Durham Rescue Mission thrift store.
