Piedmont Wildlife Center Celebrates World Turtle Day on Thursday

The Piedmont Wildlife Center this week commemorates World Turtle Day on Thursday with an all-outdoor, family-friendly free event that includes a field survey challenge, tortoise and hare race, and turtle-themed crafts and games.

South Durham’s Heather Hindin Named Executive Director of Harper’s Home

Harper’s Home, a Durham-based nonprofit that will provide temporary housing for families of pediatric patients at Duke Children’s Hospital, has named Heather Hindin as its full-time executive director. Hindin will officially assume the role on May 27.

The move marks a major milestone for the young organization as it prepares to break ground later this year. Harper’s Home received its nonprofit status in 2024 and is now in the midst of a capital campaign to fund construction of a network of furnished cottages and duplexes less than two miles from Duke Children’s.
