New Shops Coming to Streets at Southpoint

Yes, Uncle Julio’s has closed for good at The Streets at Southpoint.
But several new shops appear to be coming to the main indoor mall section, besides the impending Dick’s House of Sport that took over the old Sears space.
New tenants include:
- LEGO Store: Retail store dedicated to selling LEGO products.
- Sbarro: Fast-food chain known for New York-style pizza sold by the slice.
- Aritzia: Canadian clothing retailer known for its "everyday luxury" approach.
- PacSun: Retailer offering lifestyle apparel, swimwear, footwear, and accessories for teens and young adults.
- Aroma360: Luxury scent marketing and branding company.
Greek Festival Feeds and Entertains
Thousands turned out for the Durham Greek Festival on Saturday and Sunday at St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church. Visitors enjoyed gyros, pastitsio (while it lasted), and delicious pastries. Youth dancers also performed multiple shows during the weekend.
A portion of the festival proceeds go to Ukraine relief and support for residents in western North Carolina affected by Hurricane Helene.

- Southpoint Access Pledges 20% of Revenue to Help Save Parktown Food Hub: Parktown Food Hub, a community-based nonprofit organization working to fight hunger in Durham, is in danger of shutting down by the end of the year unless it can raise $150,000.
- Parkwood UMC Fundraiser Planned in May: Taking place on May 16 (3 to 7 p.m.) and May 17 (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.) at 5123 Revere Rd., this popular spring event raises funds to support neighbors in need while bringing people together over shared generosity – and a good hot dog.

- HEAD 2 HEAD: Kidz Movie Poll. Preschool through elementary school. All day. No registration required. Children can use the voting station in the children’s area at South Regional Library (4505 S. Alston Ave.) to vote for one of two Pixar films: Turning Red (2022) or Inside Out (2015). The winning film will be shown at Kiz Movie Madness on May 17 at 11 a.m. Voting ends May 9. - Star Wars Scavenger Hunt. Babies through tweens. All day. No registration required. Librarians have hidden 10 pictures of Star Wars characters throughout the children’s section at Southwest Regional Library (3605 Shannon Rd.). Try to find them all! - Family Gardening: Plants for Pet Friends. Kindergarten through tweens. 4 to 4:45 p.m. Registration required. Learn about the dietary needs of pets to identify fruits and vegetables you can grow to feed your favorite companions. Meeting room at Southwest Regional Library (3605 Shannon Rd.)
