Viva Raw Pet Food

Viva Raw LLC is voluntarily recalling several dog and cat foods due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recall includes Viva Turkey for Dogs Ground, Viva Turkey for Dogs Chunked, Viva Turkey for Cats, Viva Pure Turkey, and Viva Beef & Turkey for Puppies, all manufactured under Lot 21244. This contamination poses a health risk to both people and pets.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in pets consuming contaminated products. Humans can be exposed to the pathogen by handling the products, contact with infected pets, or contact with contaminated surfaces. The risk of human illness increases if proper hygiene is not maintained.

Symptoms of Listeria infection in healthy people include nausea, vomiting, aches, fever, and diarrhea. In severe cases, the infection can spread to the nervous system, leading to meningitis and other potentially fatal illnesses. Pregnant women, young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems are especially vulnerable.

In pets, Listeria infections are rare but can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, anorexia, fever, and severe respiratory and nervous system issues. Pets can carry and spread the pathogen even if they are asymptomatic. If your pet shows symptoms after consuming the recalled product, contact your veterinarian.

The recalled products were distributed nationwide and in the District of Columbia. Viva Raw is notifying all customers who received the affected products between May 16 and June 28, 2024. The recalled products are packaged as frozen 1 lb. bricks in clear vacuum packaging and have no expiration dates.

The issue was discovered during an FDA and North Carolina Department of Agriculture facility inspection. Samples from Lot 21244 tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Although the lot was slated for destruction, some products were inadvertently released.

Consumers with recalled products should contact Viva Raw at info@vivarawpets.com for a refund and destroy the food in a way that prevents access by children, pets, and wildlife. Do not feed the recalled products to animals. The FDA advises using gloves or paper towels to handle the contaminated food, placing it in a sealed plastic bag, and disposing of it in the garbage. Sanitize any areas that may have contacted the contaminated product.

Sun Seed Vita Prima Hedgehog Food

Vitakraft Sun Seed Inc., of Weston, Ohio, in collaboration with the FDA and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, has expanded its recall of Sun Seed Vita Prima Hedgehog Food and Vitakraft Vita Smart Hedgehog Food due to potential Salmonella contamination. This recall is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of pets and humans.

Salmonella can affect animals consuming the contaminated products and poses a risk to humans who handle these products without thoroughly washing their hands afterward. On June 18, 2024, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture detected Salmonella in a sample from Lot Number 417429 during random testing.

The following products are being recalled:

Pets infected with Salmonella may show symptoms such as lethargy, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Healthy pets can also carry the bacteria and spread it to other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and exhibits these symptoms, contact your veterinarian.

People infected with Salmonella should watch for symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. In rare cases, it can cause more severe conditions. Consumers exhibiting these signs after handling the product should contact their healthcare provider.

The recalled products were distributed to several states, including Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin. Retailers and distributors have been instructed to remove the affected lots from their shelves.

Diamond Shruumz Products

Prophet Premium Blends is recalling all lots of Diamond Shruumz Infused Cones, Chocolate Bars, and Gummies due to potential health risks from Muscimol, a chemical found in Amanita mushrooms. This recall includes Micro- and Mega/Extreme-Dose products.

Muscimol can cause symptoms such as seizures, agitation, involuntary muscle contractions, loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness, nausea, vomiting, abnormal heart rates, and blood pressure changes. So far, 39 illnesses have been reported in 18 states, including North Carolina.

ALDI Bakeshop Chocolate Chip Muffins

FGF Brands Inc. is recalling 11,830 cases of ALDI Bakeshop Chocolate Chip Muffins (4 count) due to undeclared walnut. Individuals with a walnut allergy or severe sensitivity risk serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume these products.

The recalled “ALDI Bakeshop Chocolate Chip Muffins” were distributed nationwide in ALDI retail stores.

The affected product is packaged in a clear plastic clamshell containing four muffins with a red label. The recall includes products marked with lot # NF1 142Y and UPC 4099100048278.

No illnesses or adverse effects have been reported in connection with this issue.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that walnut-containing products were distributed in packaging that did not disclose the presence of walnuts. The issue was caused by a temporary breakdown in production and packaging processes. Production has been suspended until the FDA and the company are certain the problem has been corrected.
