Good morning, South Durham.

This was a hard week for Durham. Firefighter Andrew Brokes died Thursday while searching a burning building near South Miami Boulevard. He was 24. Two fellow firefighters were injured and later released, and everyone inside the building escaped.

We’ll begin there. Then we’ll look at what could happen to the old Lowe’s Grove School, how North Carolina’s temporary gas-tax pause works, what Isaias means for the weekend, and why City Council narrowly approved a housing project near Oak Grove Elementary.

Let’s catch up.
