South Durham in Five: Head Start, water, housing, home sales, and books
Five stories to catch up on, plus what to know about Monday’s City Council meeting, DPS schedules, grocery prices, and the weekend ahead.

Good morning, South Durham.
Before we get to the news, thank you.
The 100 Neighbors for Local News campaign crossed its $5,000 fundraising goal after readers gave the effort an overtime push. We didn’t reach 100 neighbors, but the dollars will help pay freelance reporters, cover public-records and research costs, and produce more original reporting about the part of Durham we call home.
That support matters. So does your trust. I’m grateful for both.
This week’s five takes us from a federal Head Start proposal to Durham’s water supply, three housing projects headed to neighborhood meetings, a busier September housing market, and a plan to give every DPS kindergartner 10 books to keep.
Let’s catch up.
