The program hosts high school students who are interested in health care careers. This year, it runs July 7-25, with students attending in person half the time and virtually for the rest.
Besides learning about health care specialties from volunteers, interns will get trained on test taking, as well as office and dining etiquette. Participating students get a stipend after completing the program.
Prospective volunteers can fill out this form to set up a 15-minute virtual meeting with a program organizer.
The internship program honors the late MaryAnn Black, who died in 2020 at age 76. During her lifetime, she was a North Carolina state representative, a Durham County commissioner, and associate vice president for community relations for Duke Health.
