Williams Plans Inaugural State of the City Address

Durham Mayor Leonardo Williams is set to present his inaugural State of the City Address on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. The event, free and open to the public, aims to outline the mayor’s vision and priorities for the upcoming year in the City of Durham.

The evening kicks off with a social hour from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Durham Convention Center, located at 301 W. Morgan St. This prelude event will feature performances by the John Brown Jazz Ensemble, the Hillside High School Civic Action Project Expo Winners, and showcases from Discover Durham and Echo NC, a nonprofit dedicated to youth and entrepreneurial development in Durham.

Following the social hour, the State of the City Address will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. at The Carolina Theatre, 309 W. Morgan St. Mayor Williams’ speech will be complemented by performances from the Durham Symphony, the North Carolina Central University Sound Machine Marching Band, and City of Durham Poet Laureate D.J. Rogers.

For those unable to attend in person, the City of Durham will livestream the address on its official YouTube channel, ensuring accessibility for all residents. The address will also be available for on-demand viewing the following day on the Mayor’s State of the City Address webpage.
