[In the Works] Woodcroft Parkway Extension

South Durham residents may see further progress this year in fixing the all-too-familiar tangle of traffic where Hope Valley Road meets Garrett Road near Jordan High School.

The City of Durham has one more community meeting expected this spring before starting to acquire right-of-way for property to build an extension of Woodcroft Parkway. The extension, which will stretch from the current intersection of Woodcroft and Hope Valley, will angle north of Garrett Road Park and meet the front entrance of Jordan High.

It’s expected to alleviate the congestion that increases travel times for many motorists at Hope Valley and Garrett throughout the day and provide safer means of pedestrian and bicycle travel between the high school and the neighborhoods and shopping centers around Hope Valley Road.

Construction is expected to start in the summer of 2025, with completion in winter 2027.
