Woodcroft Extension Funding in City Council Package
Monday’s City Council vote would update funding agreements for Woodcroft Parkway and four other South Durham transportation projects, but it wouldn’t authorize construction.

The long-planned Woodcroft Parkway extension could receive more than $10.2 million in additional federal funding under a package headed to the Durham City Council on Monday night.
The project would extend Woodcroft Parkway from Hope Valley Road to Garrett Road near Jordan High School. The agreement calls for construction during federal fiscal year 2028, which begins Oct. 1, 2027, although the city’s project page still lists a possible spring 2027 start.
The consent agenda item also includes about $9 million for the NC 55 sidewalk project, $6.1 million for bike lanes and sidewalks along Cornwallis Road, $3.2 million for the Third Fork Creek Trail, and $478,196 for the NC 54 sidewalk project. Together, the five South Durham projects account for about $29 million in additional federal funding.
Monday’s vote wouldn’t award construction contracts. It would authorize revised agreements with the N.C. Department of Transportation and commit Durham to the required local shares. Woodcroft still has a $269,314 local funding gap that city staff expects to cover with Zone 4 street impact fees.
