Bus Transportation Remains Limited for DPS Families on Friday

Parents of Durham Public Schools students can expect continued shortages of bus drivers on Friday, and the district is asking once again for parents to manage drop off and pick up.

At least 50 bus drivers have called out this week in the aftermath of the district’s decision to roll back pay increases for classified employees, including bus mechanics.

In a message to parents Thursday night, district officials said: “We anticipate some delays in bus service tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 19, and again ask for your assistance in transporting your students to and from school for the day. Again, thank you for your patience.”

The district indicated that it’s working to resolve the issue, but it’s unclear how soon relief might come. The DPS Board of Education is slated to meet next on Jan. 25.
