Durham City Council is poised Monday to repeal a program designed to increase contracting opportunities for minority- and women-owned businesses after a new state law eliminated the city’s authority to enforce it.

The repeal of Durham’s Equal Business Opportunity Program, or EBOP, is on the council’s consent agenda. That means it could be approved alongside other items without separate discussion unless a council member asks to pull it.

The city established EBOP to prevent discrimination in contracting, address the effects of past discrimination, and increase opportunities for historically underutilized businesses owned by women and minorities.
