Durham Schools Closed Thursday

Expected impacts from Tropical Storm Debby persuaded Durham Public Schools administrators to cancel classes on Thursday, Aug. 8, and made it an optional remote work day for employees.

Friday, Aug. 9, is scheduled as an early release day. Whether students actually go to school on Friday is a wait-and-see decision based on observed conditions tomorrow.

District officials anticipate heavy rainfall and flooding to make it unsafe for travel to and from school. Essential personnel are asked to report to work as determined by their supervisors.

Wake County, Orange County, and Chapel Hill-Carrboro also announced school closings for Thursday.
