High Heat, Humidity in Durham Today
The National Weather Service warns that Durham could see heat index temperatures up to 106 degrees Fahrenheit today between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. The high temperatures and humidity could lead to heat illnesses.
According to the NWS advisory, residents should drink plenty of fluids, keep to where it’s air conditioned and out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. Don’t leave young children or pets in your vehicle. Double check the back of your vehicle.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in shade or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
Hot conditions are expected again on Friday, with heat index temperatures between 105 and 110 degrees.
