A Birthday Wish for South Durham
I’m asking 100 neighbors to help raise $5,000 by Sept. 22 to expand independent local journalism through Southpoint Access.

No boxes of candy or cookies - the OneFundraiser held by Hope Valley Elementary School cuts to the chase with eight days of school spirit, fun, and community support.

The goal: $40,000. What would that fund?

Givebacks - Support the causes you care about
Automatic cashback for you and your cause, in store, online, and on your phone - join the movement where shopping is the right thing to do.
  • New recess equipment for every grade level and improvements to the gymnasium stage.
  • HVE shirts for all, year-round classroom snacks, 5th-grade yearbooks, teacher grants, staff appreciation, school beautification, the Eagle Bucks store, and the clothing closet.
  • Stretch goal: A gaga ball pit if the school reaches $40,000. Also, an admin gets put in a costume and sprayed with Silly String.

On Sept. 16, the school hosts Family Night from 5:30 to 7 p.m., with a staff talent show and an in-person raffle. Raffle tickets cost $5 each or five for $20. Every student gets one free ticket. Prizes are gift certificates from local businesses.

Spirit days during the fundraiser include:

  • Sept. 9: Wacky Wednesday
  • Sept. 10: Beach or Tropical Day
  • Sept. 11: Pajama Day
  • Sept. 14: Dress Like a Teacher or Staff/Student Day
  • Sept. 15: Favorite Team Day
  • Sept. 16: Wild Hat or Hair Day
  • Sept. 17: Superhero Day
  • Sept. 18: HVE Shirt Day

To participate, deposit cash or checks in the donation box in the PTA box near the front office. The PTA receives 100% of these donations. Online donations also can be made via Givebacks.
